Drawing Myself Out of a Paper Bag
Crane Arts Icebox, Philadelphia PA
April 9th, 2011
Both an installation and performance piece that attempts to interpret the euphemism "You couldn't think your way out of a paper bag," in the most literal and accessible way possible. The creation of a giant sized paper bag is the first step towards being able to both enter and exit from it. It spans 20ftL x 9ftH x 5ftW and is constructed from brown paper and is shellac'd in its entirety.
The second component was a performance piece in which I drew my way both in and out of the paper bag to fully confront the statement.
*Video footage of the performance coming soon.

The piece fully installed in the Crane Arts Icebox.

The scale mock-up created for the initial proposal
